Employee Assistance Program, Safety Initiatives

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
In light of the tragic accident, please take advantage of the EAP employee assistance program at 617-222-5381. They offer free confidential assistance with Grief/Loss and numerous other issues you may have.
 
Teamsters have received multiple phone calls stating safety concerns.  Mr. David Sousa had a lot of friends and it's a terrible state of affairs that Mr. Sousa had to be killed to bring about change.
 
It is my Mission to bring forth these changes:
 
1, A blue and red flashing light on all DOT vehicles
2, Minimum two DOT personnel to retrieve road debris, second person to back up
3, Raise Death benefits for family of DOT employee killed in line of duty
4, Change retirement group from group one to a more appropriate risk level group three as with State Police.
 
I believe with all your support we can make these changes. It will be arduous task and the Teamsters will spearhead these safety initiatives.
 
Teamsters will meet with Governer Healy's office for assistance. Call your local Rep's and Senators and ask them to move our group from one to group three.
 
Stand tall and proud for you are a Teamster.

David Sousa

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
it is with a heavy heart I tell you one of our own, David Sousa, was struck and killed last Friday evening removing debris left behind from a previous accident on Rt.24.  Our thoughts and prayer are with David's family.

DOT Classes

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
 
DOT has implemented classes for Teamsters supervisors, Mechanic Foremen and other personnel to attain
multiple licenses as 4-G and Hosting 2A -2B.  We sent a cease-and-desist order to stop these classes
until DOT bargains in good faith over changing your job descriptions. Let me be clear: DOT is going ahead with these classes and it's up to you if you want to take this class or not, I repeat your choice. There will be no discipline action taken on any Teamster members.

Important News

There will be an in-person General Membership Meeting at 4:30 pm on Tuesday May 07, 2024, held at the Auburn Elks Lodge.754 Southbridge St. Auburn Ma,01501.
 
The IBT has requested that a straw poll be taken for the upcoming presidential election at this meeting.
 
P.S. The June in-person meeting held at the Auburn Elks is canceled.

Union Scholarships

Hi Brothers and Sisters,
 
The Teamsters are offering three different scholarships for 2024.
 
The first is offered through the Local 127 office and consists of four (4) five hundred dollar scholarships.
 
The second is from the Teamsters Joint Council 10 and consists of multiple scholarships, and the third is from the IBT in Washington.
 
The scholarships are for eligible members of Local 127 that have children graduating high school in May/June 2024 and planning to attend college or an approved vocational school.
 
Please call the 127 offices for applications and eligibility and any questions you may have.  Act fast, most deadlines are in March.

Proposed DOT Successor Agreement

Dear brothers and Sisters,
 
Teamsters have a proposed successor agreement with DOT.
 
The MOU highlights are as follows:
 
Two (2) 4% across- the board pay increases. The first increase is effective July,2023, with the second following in January 2024
 
Due to the compounding affect, the pay increases effectively total an 8.16% pay increase by January 2024
There are additional funds to be negotiated on the table for the benefit of all Teamster members.

Important news update

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The executive branch proposed to the Healey administration a one-year extension on the collective bargaining agreement. Our attorneys are looking over the fact of the offer: 4% when we signed the agreement, 4% in six months, one year from the agreement $500 cash. Sounds like a no-brainer, but the Teamsters would still like our attorney's recommendations.

Dues Adjustments

To all members:

You will see an adjustment to your dues rate next pay period.  This coincides with the CBA pay increase you received last July. The rate is calculated at 2.25% of your hourly wage rounded to the nearest dollar.

Pay Disparity

MassDOT has not agreed to bring current members making less than the new hires up to the maximum step grade.  As it stands, MassDOT has the right to bring any new employee in at any step grade on a case-by-case basis, with approval from the Chief Human Resources Officer.  This issue is not able to be arbitrated.  While the Union understands how impactful this is to the affected membership, this unfortunately is the end result of negotiations surrounding current pay disparities.
